Home Remedies For Yeast Infection

It has been studied that 3 out of 4 women will develop yeast infection or candidiasis in their lifetime.  The common causes of yeast infection are diabetes, pregnancy, steroids, oral contraceptives, antibiotics, and can also be menopause due to the lowering of the woman’s estrogen levels.  Yeast infection, when ignored or not promptly taken care of, will require heavy drug treatments to remedy it and to stop the infection from recurring.   However, if you familiarize yourself with the symptoms, you’d know when you have one just in time for you to treat it in the comforts of your own home and save yourself of the heavy expenses.  Here are the following effective home remedies for yeast infection that you can choose from:

  • Oregano Oil – is a remarkable herb because of its high potency against yeast.  It is taken internally.  I would recommend Oreganol Super Strength P73 because it contains an active ingredient called high carvacrol content.
  • Garlic – is the most effective of all home remedies for yeast infection if you want instant relief, so this makes the garlic a yeast infection’s biggest enemy.  Inserting a garlic clove or one garlic tab into your vagina as needed or every after a few hours can definitely give you soothing relief.  There are garlic tabs that can also be taken internally if you are not comfortable with suppositories.  You can also take a fresh garlic if you don’t have a garlic tab available to be taken internally.
  • Apple Cider Vinegar – aside from its weight loss benefits, this vinegar also has other health benefits and can be used externally or internally.  As for treating candidiasis, it is applied externally but whatever you do, do not apply it pure and directly to your skin.  This element is very strong and can burn like you never imagined.  What you need to do is to add a cup of this vinegar into your bath water before you take a hot nice bath.  This treatment can provide you with a full day relief but it won’t have a long-term effect compared to garlic suppositories.
  • Plain Yogurt – the yeast in our body can become an infection if it has overcome the good bacteria in our system that keeps it from overgrowing.  A plain yogurt can provide the good bacteria that we have lost and it can be used either internally or externally.  Sugar feeds yeast so it is very imperative that the yogurt you buy is purely plain and unsweetened.  In using yogurt topically, dip the tampon in it before inserting it inside your vagina.  You can also choose to just rub the yogurt on the outside area.  Once you have felt the relief, wipe the yogurt off immediately as it will bring an opposite effect if you leave it there longer than necessary.

Vaginal Yeast Infection

A yeast infection is an infection that is caused by the agent Candida albicans this organism is a fungi that can be found normally in a woman’s vagina also known as the normal flora or normal resident organism. There are just certain conditions that will make it increase wildly to an undesirable numbers that will be the cause of vaginal yeast infection or candidiasis. The yeast can spread to any parts of the body if it multiplies to raging numbers. Vaginal yeast infection is not transmitted by sexual intercourse alone but with other conditions and medications also. Diabetic women are likely to have the infection since the vagina in this condition becomes a very suitable place for yeast growth. Another condition is pregnancy where a certain hormone is low or absent that makes the yeast to strive and grow. Certain drugs also such as steroid decreases immune responses thus regulation of the number of normal flora is altered prompting rapid increase in number, some antibiotics on the other hand kills the good bacteria that helps control the number of normal flora present and these conditions lead to vaginal yeast infection.

Yeast infection is not really that serious if detected and treated early, but if it spreads systemically or enters the blood stream then the condition turns serious already. There may be home remedies to the vaginal yeast infection but it is still best to seek medical help, having a check-up with a physician ensures proper diagnosis and treatment for the infection. When a woman is found to be positive with the infection it is best for her partner to submit himself for a check-up also, since men mostly doesn’t show signs and symptoms in early stages then it likely that they wont submit self for a check-up, but absence of signs and symptoms doesn’t mean that you are already free from the infection. Men may carry the infection without showing signs and symptoms until it is already chronic. That’s why treatment should be for both partners. Treatment of just one of the partner will defeat the purpose of the treatment since the other partner possible carrying the infection will just pass it again and again to its partner.

The signs of candidiasis may be painful and burning sensation while voiding, redness and itchy vagina, white cottage cheese like discharges, pain when having a sexual intercourse. If these signs and symptoms are experienced, it is best to consult a physician.

Yeast Infection Symptoms

There is a fungus that lives on all of us that is called Candida Albicans.  It remains harmless because of the good bacteria in our body that keeps it so.  However, when the said fungus managed to overgrow, that’s when it develops into a yeast infection.  This is something that we need to concern ourselves with because yeast infection can attack both males and female in different age groups.  Candida Albicans or more popularly known as candidiasis can grow in warm, dark and moist areas in your body.  Here are the yeast infection symptoms to look out for and be aware of:

  • ON VAGINAL YEAST INFECTION
  • Itching on vulva or vagina. It would start mildly until it becomes unbearable especially when left untreated.
A general burning sensation that can also occur when urinating.  Urinary Tract Infections also bring a burning sensation when urinating.  In order to determine if the burning sensation is part of yeast infection symptoms, you should be able feel it as the urine comes out and passes through the raw, sensitive area around your vagina.  If it’s a urinary tract problem, you’d be able to feel the burning sensation even before the urine starts to come out.
Swelling or redness of the vagina
Pain during sexual intercourse, so abstain from having sex when you do have yeast infection to avoid the risk of passing it on to your partner and then him passing it back to you creating a really nasty cycle as a result.
Unusual discharge.  Watch out for a cottage cheese like discharge that can either be thick or watery and with a color that ranges from white, grey to yellowish.
    A dominant, unusual odor

    • ON ORAL YEAST INFECTION

Discomfort or pain when swallowing or eating
White patches in the throat and/or mouth
You can confirm if the patches are indeed yeast infection symptoms by lifting it to see if it will bleed easily and show lesions.  You can do this just once if you really want to confirm if it is a yeast infection.  Doing it several times can risk the spread of the infection further.

    Cracking
    Itching
Peeling of skin between the fingers
    Burning sensation
Shiny pink rashes with scaly, blistered edges in the folds of the skin
    Dampness
Swollen nail folds over the nail cuticles
Inflamed reddish skin that can be painful and have pus

    • ON PENILE YEAST INFECTION

    Itching
    Rash
Pain during intercourse and even on a sexual dysfunction
    Swelling and Redness

Candidiasis – A Yeast Infection Overview

An overgrowth of yeast is what causes a yeast infection.  The most common type of yeast infection is called candidiasis.  It comes from these types of fungi named Candida Albicans and they grow on all surfaces of our body.  When these fungi abnormally grow and outnumber the good bacteria in our body, particularly in our warm and moist areas, that’s when they cause infections such as vaginal or oral yeast infections.  Other basic facts about candidiasis are as follows:

    • Candidal infections are normally found in warm and moist areas in our body like the underarms, mouth, vagina and baby butts.  Our skin usually blocks yeast effectively, but cuts or breakdown would allow these organisms to be able to penetrate
    • Diaper areas and the mouth are the typical affected areas in infants
    • Vaginal Candidiasis is another term for vaginal yeast infection and is also the most common form of vaginitis
    • Oral yeast infections or thrush in adults become more common as they age.  Adults are also prone to yeast infection around dentures, nail beds, and beneath the skin folds.  Most of these infections, with the exception of nail beds, are superficial and can be cured easily with treatment.  The nail beds, however, often undergo prolonged therapy.
    • There is also a possibility that a normal yeast infection will spread throughout one’s body but it only happens rarely.  This happens when the fungus gets to enter the bloodstream.  Sadly, forty-five percent of these people may die, which is all the more reason for us to treat yeast infections seriously and undergo treatment as soon as we confirm we have it.
